James is at the hospital now, and when Beth gets into her room he'll have the chance to see her.

- 2007: Abnormal cells (ADH & LDH) found in left breast. Excisional Biopsy finds DCIS (Stage 0)
- April 17, 2009: Follow-up MRI finds suspicious mass in a different part of left breast.
- April 28, 2009: MRI-Guided Biopsy finds Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (7-8 mm, grade 4.5 on Bloom Richardson Grading Scale)
- June 4, 2009: Mastectomy on left breastery
- June 16, 2009: Pathology report shows a Stage 1 .7 cm invasive carcinoma with estrogen receptivity of 98%, progesterone receptivity of 20%. Positive for HER2-neu gene amplification on FISH test (2.45). Topo 2A positive. Margins are 1 cm in all directions. There were focal pockets of atypical lobular hyperplasia and flat epithelial atypia. The Sentinal Nodes were clear.
- July 1, 2009: Oncotype DX test comes back with a score of 25 -- mid level -- indicating statistical likelihood of 17% for recurrence, but based on tumors larger than mine
- July 16, 2009:Treatment Decision: Herceptin (probably for 1 year) and Tamoxifen (probably for 5 years). Combined with vigorous exercise this puts my likelihood of recurrence around 2%
- July 23, 2010: Last Herceptin Treatment
That's good to hear that Beth's surgery was a success. I've been a nervous mother all day. David, I am so touched that your friendship with Beth is so deep and so faithful.

Thanks for the happy update. Beth and James, I recently made up a huge vegetable stew and put several servings in the freezer. It contains runner beans from my garden, as well as corn, whole wheatberries, onions, leeks, garlic, cauliflower (mushed beyond recognition), home-concocted curry powder, etc. It's al vegan, all organic. I can add some dinosaur kale from my garden and all you'll need to add is salt to taste. Please feel totally at ease calling me any time at my one and only number, 789 6059, and asking for a delivery. So far I know I have time to make a delivery tonight after I finish teaching at 8, tomorrow between 11:30 and 3, and tomorrow after I finish teaching at 7:30. But no matter our schedules, the offer still stands.
